My Favorite Ten Images from Week 10 of My Wanderings - Mar 07 - Mar 13, 2022 - Staying Close to Home

Gas prices! Well...I decided to keep the walks closer to home, leaving the car in the drive way this week.   I spotted sea otters, sea lion and butterflies as I rambled around Pacific Grove and Monterey.

The Brandt's Cormorants are starting to get nests ready, they seemed a little frisky.

Spring looks to be on the way, the flowers are making a come back.

I have been seeing Monarchs all over the place, so I headed to the Butterfly Sanctuary.  It was early morning and the sun hit the trees to reveal monarchs sunning their beautiful wings.

If you keep your eye open when you are around the kelp beds in Monterey and Pacific Grove, you can often spot Sea Otters.   

Dawn is my favorite, I love the morning light.

"When the sun is low on the horizon during sunrises and sunsets, the sunlight travels through more of the atmosphere. Shorter wavelength colors (blues and violets) get scattered out. This leaves more of the longer wavelength colors like yellow, orange, and red. This is why sunrises often take on such colors"

What's new??  # 5 of 64 new experiences in 2022

My new activity, well... it once again included food.

Alta Bakery was my destination for something new!  I have walked through the gardens, but the bakery has always been busy.  This week, there wasn't a line, I looked around, took images and  when I went inside, there was one more piece of ham and shallot quiche.  I had them box it, I took it with me and walked it home.  I heated it up, had a cup of tea and ate it in the garden.  Freaking delicious!  I loved it.  In the spring the gardens around the bakery are incredible, this one is well worth a visit.

I continue my morning walks, finding quiet, peace and connection with nature.  The morning light seems magical to me.  The sounds, the smells and the world lighting up around me is the perfect start.

I've been stuck in the same routine for a long time between care giving for Phil and Covid restrictions for the last couple of years.  I'm looking for new experiences!!!  I've been off to a slow start this year, but tacos always encourage me to try somewhere new!

This week I tried something new by checking out Aquino's Birrieria in Pacific Grove.  Gustavo Aquino spoke to me about his passion for food, how he is working with covid restrictions and his new space.  I found him knowledgeable, very good natured and filled with pride for his business.   I had street tacos and Noelle had a quesadilla, we loved them.  The restaurant has great space, cool decor and you can order your food via text, online and pick up is easy.  Noelle and I took our food to the beach, a very nice lunch and a successful new experience.

It was clear this morning!  Orange color welcomed the day. 

  3 more days, jiminy I can't believe it.  I will continue to walk and share the images I capture.  The blog however will not be a daily, I will share the best of the pictures at the end of each week.  There will also be the addition of short videos, I'm trying to expand my skills in that area.  I'm also giving myself a new challenge.  I feel like I have been stuck in a bit of a rut, doing the "same ol things".  I turn 64 years old this year and I'm going to have 64 new experiences.  New walks, places, clothes, you name it - I'm going to try new stuff!  I will share my new adventures in the blog, I'm going for a fun new year.  I'm currently learning more about marketing my images, it is going to be a very busy 2022.

Then what I witnessed broke my heart.  A piece of trash floating in the ocean....the sea otter picked it up and started eating it.  Come on humans, please pick up your trash.

Dear Phil,

As I come to the finish of 365 days my heart and mind have been filled with you.  I can still see your smile, feel your hug and hear your, "I love you's".  Gratitude and beautiful memories surround me.  You left me with love, hope and courage.  I will always miss you, my heart remains broken but I look to the future with humor and will continue to carry you with me.  Thank you for being kind, loving me for who I am and being the absolute best friend anyone could ever have.  I can hear your advice, and I promise to work on my cooking this year.  Oh my goodness do I miss your cooking and I know how much you pampered and spoiled me.  I am making the best bar b que sauce just like you taught me.

I love and miss you with all of my heart.
