Reflections.
What I found as soon as I got there was distressing. There was a small sea lion that I could see was not doing well. I called the Marine Mammal Center and they told me they would send someone as soon as possible. I took photos and then I decided to wait for them to arrive. I could hear Phil in my head and he encouraged me to do so. Phil could not pass up helping, esp with an animal. I ended up having to keep people back from the sea lion as I waited. A text or two and I ended up having a friend Marge who came and put up some signs helping keep people back. Thanks Marge and Kim! Someone came from the Marine Mammal Center and looked at the sick sea lion and she told me that someone would be on their way. Unfortunately it died before they arrived.
I decided to make the jetty the only destination to take images for the blog today.
It was active. The first sea otter I found was twirling in the kelp.
The next sea otter was acting unusual, well, we will say in a way I have not observed before. It was swimming among the sea lions. It would slip down swim with them and pop back up.
I continued to watch the sea otter and it would dive and come up with something different to eat on each dive. It was quick, wild and was spinning everywhere. At one point it came out of the water and onto the rocks.
I watched it cracking a crab leg on the rock on it's chest. They carry a rock under their arm to use as a tool.
Then I spotted a very young sea lion.
Hanging out with the family.
Snuggling in.
Climbing all over. The little one brought joy and a reminder of the circle of life.
Beauty on the way back home!
For Phil
I miss you. I could have used one of your beautiful hugs today.
I sent a couple of souls for you to love.
A sea lion and our love, Grace.
I know you are helping take care of both.
In fact I know you are surrounded by animal love.
I know Phil was waiting with hugs and kisses for you Grace.
