Our first morning in Corvallis consisted of a walk around a beautiful path that was in the countryside, we passed all kinds of animals and plants that the students at the college were working with.  We toured the campus of Oregon State University, it was full of large trees and wonderful old architecture.  A wonderful breakfast that included lots of blueberries and raspberries.  Fresh picked and delicious.

We walked through a beautiful covered bridge on our walk. The Iris Bend Bridge it had been moved from the nearby town of Monroe.  Inside the bridge, was a beautiful message.

Out in the middle of a field was a small yellow parakeet.  I felt bad that he was out in nature, but he looked very healthy and happy.  Chris said she had been keeping her eye out for him.

A visit to the city of Corvallis was next.  The Williamette River runs next to the city on one side with a park that runs next to it.  The city itself was charming with cute shops, restaurants and beautiful flower pots that hung from the light posts.  The alleys had been spruced up by local artist and murals and art was everywhere.  We window shopped, we tried to eat at Nearly Normals, it was closed.  We chose a lovely bakery instead and had a delicious meal.  We will catch Nearly Normal's the next time we are in town.  Corvallis was preparing for the upcoming eclipse of the sun, there was all kinds of advertising and preparing going on.  We visited two theaters the Whiteside and the Darkside.  The Darkside theater was amazing, very unique with collages all over the place.  I had never seen anything like it before.  http://www.darksidecinema.com/

After dinner we head for Fitton Green Trail.  It was just a beautiful trail in the wilderness.  Perfection in every way.  There was a view in every direction, mountains, city and trees.  Wildflowers, birds chirping and lots of fresh air.

Looking at the  high point in the distance, we know that we are hiking Mary's Peak the next day.  Phil was handling the hikes and activities and was joyful about everything we did.  We rested when needed but for the most part all of our exercise is paying off.  He is getting strong and it showed, he did fabulous.  I was nervous for him, but it felt reassuring that someone would be with us.  We usually stay where there are many people around because we feel safer.  This enabled us to step out of our comfort zone and we were ready and willing.

We spotted turkeys in the grass.

As we came down the hill we searched and searched.

Then all of a sudden they ran out in front of us on the path.
We finish our day feeling good about ourselves, we have been eating great, exercising and enjoying friends.  It just doesn't get any better.
We come home to the sanctuary of  Chris and Scott's home and beautiful garden.  A great nights sleep and we are excited about our next day......

Soon to come.......Travels to Newport.
