This has been a very busy period for Phil and I. (I haven't had time to even think of writing a blog) We have had one of our busiest months ever dog sitting. Besides that, I have been trudging through, Medi care, Medi cal and trying to figure out how to navigate that. Phil has been struggling through health issues while all of it has been going on. Ups and downs, that seems to be the ride we are on with brain cancer. There is always a challenge and in the next breath something wonderful will happen. Finding beauty through fear, living each moment to the fullest and feeling gratitude for every small pleasure is our lifestyle.
Pictured above are some of the treasures that we get to sit. We love each of them and each of them brings something to our life.
After our busy month of dog sitting our friend Chris came to visit. We had visited her and her husband Scott a little over a year ago in Oregon. That visit to Oregon had instilled a confidence that we had lost going through seizures, radiation and chemotherapy. After that trip we moved forward with more self confidence and set out on some journeys and travels with the spirit that we had before "cancer". We were looking forward to our visit with Chris. She has been a cheerleader, supporter and overall great friend through all of this. Thank you to both of you Chris and Scott for all!
We decided to do something we had never done in our area while Chris was here, we would hike around Point Lobos. We set out early on a Sunday morning with joy and fun in our hearts.
We spotted animals, the beauty that surrounded us took us in and we had fun spending time together. We walked all over Point Lobos, had a picnic and I had a wonderful time taking photos. I've been tired, stressed and haven't had much time with my camera......it was lovely.
Chris and Phil looking like a Colombia Sportswear commercial. Thank you Chris, you have given Phil much joy with the clothes. He wants to wear nothing else but Colombia now!!
Chris spoiled us rotten as she always does. Phil tried to return the favor and cooked for her while she was here. It has been wonderful having Phil back in the kitchen in many ways. We had fun!
Fresh air, walking and being able to talk, living the moment and loving it.
Every where you looked was beauty!
Phil health update:
Phil has been tired and had been experiencing some pain in his groin. Of course the fear of cancer comes to play, we also knew that a hernia might be a factor as Phil had moved our furniture in to the new apartment. He visited the doctor, had a couple of tests and it seems he has had an infection. We are working on getting him healed up, but what good news. Our walk around Point Lobos was the first good walk we have had in a while. It was wonderful to be back in nature......and the beauty that surrounded us was amazing.
As we walked, we came across Cormorants nesting. What an amazing sight, they made a huge circle with their nests and were displaying there stunning blue necks. I have never found Cormorants to be more beautiful!
Our visit with Chris was over way too soon. and I will stop here for a brief commercial break..... While Chris was here, she noticed that I was having some tire issues on Penelope. On the morning she was leaving there was a decision that perhaps we needed a trip to the tire store to check the safety of our tires.
I want to give a huge shout out to "Sullivan's Tire Pro." They fit us in to a very busy schedule, treated me kindly and most importantly they took good care of Penelope. They made us safe for our trip to the San Jose airport. Phil had bought his tires from them when he had Phil's Auto Repair and I can see why he wanted me to take our business there. Thank you very much to Sullivans!!!!
and thank you very much Chris! We are much safer now.
On the way to the airport we stopped at Moss Landing and took in a little nature there. There were sea otters in the water and even a couple of them on land.
Then, tonight something amazing, wonderful, educational and heart warming happened. Phil had a physical therapist that worked with him at the beginning of his journey. Troy helped get Phil back up on his feet and propelled him on our daily walks. Since then we have found out Troy's beautiful wife Stephanie has brain cancer as well. Troy and Phil have been texting and we have been wanting to get together. They invited us to go to a movie at the Monterey Bay Aquarium called, Smog of the Sea. To our delight, there was a panel discussing plastics in our oceans and it included Jack Johnson. This subject touches us personally, as many of you know my daughter Nicole has been a strong supporter and teacher about plastics with her store, Ma's Green Living, and at the aquarium's plastic summits.
What an evening!!!
It's time that we all start doing something about our plastic consumption.
Jack Johnson sang like an angel.
Two very brilliant young people, please check them out and what they are doing for our oceans. Cleaning the golf balls out of the ocean by the thousands.
Troy and Stephanie, thank you very much for such a beautiful opportunity, we can't wait to spend time talking.
We love the aquarium and had a wonderful time.
Life is good. One more thing......Our neighbor Chris is opening up a new dive shop by the Coast Guard Jetty. We got to check it out, it is very cool and we hope if you are in our area, you will check it out. Out to Sea.
Whew! Now I need to get some sleep!
Beautiful....
Thank you
very Grateful
