Asilomar State Beach is one of Phil's and my favorite beaches to visit. We have taken many walks there since we have lived in Pacific Grove, but have had the chance to really explore in the last week while we have been dog sitting. Asilomar is close to many wonderful places to visit in the Monterey Peninsula, it sits right in between Pebble Beach and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. If you are ever in our area, it is a wonderful place to visit. The beach sits among the dunes and there is natural beauty everywhere. The weather around Asilomar can range from sunny to a thick marine layer and it can change on a moments notice.

There is plenty to watch on the beach. Phil and I entertain ourselves watching the surfing, the kids playing and we love the dogs running on the beach.
There is a boardwalk that takes you through the dunes, you would be surprised at all the flowers, insects and wildlife there is right there in the sand dunes. Even a sign warning you of mountain lions. You can walk up to the Asilomar Conference grounds, it is beautiful, there is a store and restaurant there.
The trails lead you through the dunes, around tidal pools and by a bunch of small beaches.
Surprises abound in the tidal pools and on the beaches. Treasures are everywhere if you just take the time to look.
The wildlife is diverse and everywhere. In morning light is my favorite time on the beach, I have seen deer frolicking in the ocean, harbor seals, all kinds of birds including sea birds, plus you can see whale blows from the shore too!
Sunset is spectacular at Asilomar.
