We wake one last time at Scott and Chris's house, I take time to breath the garden air, watch Chris in her kitchen and Scott prepare for our trip. They will go with us and we will stay in their friends house in Newport, Oregon. Corvallis has an ideal location and is close to sea, mountains and city all within a close drive. The coast is only an hour away. Phil is very excited at the prospect of seeing Newport as while he was recovering from the chemo he watched a fishing show with Newport in it. Sad that it is time to head out, but excited at the prospects that lay ahead. Our hosts have told us about our destinations and the weather was perfect. Our entire trip was blessed with perfect weather.
We stopped and unpack our bags at the "vacation" home in Newport and depart for more adventures. I must say thank you to Martha and Charlie for the use of their home. We had a ball and played Fact or Crap while enjoying the cabin. We head North that day and will go South the next as Chris and Scott send us on our way.
Yaquina Bay Bridge
Vacation home in Newport.
We head toward Depoe Bay, Yaquina Head Natural Area, and stop and many beautiful areas on the way.
Yaquina Bay Lighthouse
Many Common Murre on the rocks
Cobble Stone Beach - a walk down the stairs and sitting down on the warm rocks.
We climb the hill above for the views below of the Cobblestone Beach Lighthouse.
We then head for the Alder House Glass blowing in Lincoln City, Oregon. We loved taking our time, watching the glass get blown and enjoying the beauty surrounding us.
Opie wasn't feeling very good, his arthritis was bothering him.
Depoe Bay Bridge
Cape Foul Weather
Art made from driftwood at Cape Foul Weather
The view from Cape Foul Weather
Devil's punch bowl. The tide was out while we were there, but it was still spectacular to look at.
Then back to Newport where we walk all around the harbor, we enjoy each others company, take photos and just enjoy the scenery.
Phil and I have not eaten out many meals since he has been diagnosed with cancer. It is just too expensive plus the added challenge of my garlic allergy, it has been a rare occurrence. This was a very special occasion for us. We ate at a lovely restaurant called, Local Ocean. No worries about the food, it was delicious. But during dinner, I started to think about everything Chris and Scott had done, plus the trip was overwhelming already, the meal pushed me over the edge emotionally just a bit. Sad about leaving them as well I am sure, I teared up and my food got a little stuck. I stood up and it slid down the old gullet. Of course everyone was alarmed because they were worried it was garlic. Damn.....but we giggled about it later. A meal I will not forget soon.
We then ended the day, sitting on the beach for a while, then a rousting game of Fact or Crap and then off to bed.
The next morning Phil sleeps in, Chris and I take a long walk on the beach.
Check out the art that this little horse shoe crab created. All the other crabs just had a boring little trail. I had to document the art that this one created.
Our last visit before lunch was at the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretative Center. Phil loved the museum it had information about transportation in Oregon. He took in everything, and enjoyed himself. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch and parted ways. Saying bye is always hard for me - I will never know how to say thank you for such a gift.
So, you would think this trip is over, but it will take me at least one more blog. We continue heading down the coast. The next blog will take us to Gold Beach, Eureka, California and our last night with our friend Lee. I hope I can get all of that in one more blog. I have a 200 photos to go through and organize. Last blog of this magnificent trip. Reliving it has been great for Phil and I, seems if we are getting to experience the trip again.
Scott and Chris, your gift gave us confidence, love, hope and friendship.
Our thanks is deep and we hope you know how we appreciate your life changing gift and that it has helped us in many ways. It is a trip of a lifetime, one we will never forget.
We love and thank you - Linda and Phil
