Elephant Seals, Moonstone Beach and renewed Attitudes

This year has started with some tribulations and hardships, all being tackled and conquered with humor and tenacity.  Phil however has been suffering from sadness since the beginning of the year.  We have been busy, going from one dog sitting gig to the next.  Survival, physical therapy and being a psychic all keeping us going in one way or another.  In other words, living life, isn't it grand?   Let me stop and say one more time that the dog souls that we care for mean the world to us.  Each one of their little hearts, is loved by us and  each one gives us more love than any human being deserves.  The anniversary of Phil's seizure slipped up on us before we knew it.  For Phil, I saw the depression sliding in and he let me in that it had all been weighing on him. After our dog sitting jobs quieted we decided an adventure was called for.  A couple of wonderful friends provided us the means to take a night away and it was appreciated. A much needed adventure and good break for our souls.  No matter how hard you try to remain optimistic, there are times of great sadness when dealing with cancer.  Brain cancer can be tricky as Phil and I have learned.  We see it as a "new" way of life and try to make the best of it.  We fall, it's inevitable.  If you are going through this, don't beat yourself up about it, instead embrace it and try to pick yourself up, find humor or beauty or passion.  Even better yet, if you can find all three, grab it.    We decided to change our mood with a very quick tour to Cambria and surrounding area.  It worked oh did it work.  If you can possibly make it though these photos you have completed a big task.  We loved each moment and came back renewed and grateful.  The elephants seals were more than amazing, the noises, the power the energy that was going on - WOW!

(If you tap the photos it will make them larger and you can scroll through them)

Phil and I have always wanted to stay in Cambria but the price of the rooms had kept us away.  It was running about $300 a night and that has always been too much for a room for us.  We are more the rustic, camping type.  It is off season, during the week and $100. got a unbelievable room and the experience was wonderful.  Adventures can be done on a budget.  This one was inexpensive, relaxing and we came back with a new attitude, a feeling of living life and ready for the next wonderful set of dogs.

Living.....we are living, laughing and loving.

Moonstone Beach

Phil and I have been visiting Moonstone Beach as long as we have known each other.  It has special meaning to us and each moment we were there, we were conscious and very grateful to share it together again.

The morning was filled with black birds.

Sunset over Moonstone Beach.

.
In and around Cambria.

We walked around town, visited Nitt Witt Ridge and checked out the lighthouse lens.

We took a side trip for a minute to Cayucos - yes to try a sugar cookie.  We have been passing the sign for years and I wanted one!  So we went and tried some samples and guess what it was worth it and Cayucos was fun!

We had one of our lunches at Port San Luis, we saw a sea otter pup, split some tasty fish and chips and had a wonderful time.  Typically Phil and I picnic, we splurged and ate out twice on this trip woohoo it was fun.  We split a meal, economical and it ends up being just the right amt of food.

San Simeon and area

Hearst castle, zebras, a dead boar and lots of vultures greeted us on the way to visit the Elephant Seals.

Another one of our lunches and wonderful stops was at:
Sebastians Store in San Simeon.  WOW!  We split a sandwich there - if you haven't been, it is a must.  Beautiful, the food and service were wonderful.  Casual and historic, a must see!

and what we wanted to see and was more than amazing....stupendous, filled with energy, babies, sex and competition.

Elephant Seals

There were pups all over the beach.  Lots of screaming and calling.

Breeding, birthing and fighting going on all at one time.  A frenzy.

Wow!  Power!  Energy!  Competition!

You get the idea, every seal for itself, no matter the age.  There were hundreds of pups on the beach.  From newborns who need to fill in their skin to plump ones full of milk and sadly, smashed ones from the large bulls mowing over them.  Moving out of the way, a key skill....

Brand new pup.  We saw the flurry of sea gulls and we got to see this little one right after it was born.

Majestic, huge and a intimidating.  The male elephant seal commands respect.  He protects his harem at all costs.

The seagulls clean up after the birth and even go after the umbilical cord on the baby.

Wow, I can still feel the energy when I look at the photos.  The camera is a love, passion and it is keeping me feeling grounded as this journey continues.  Thank you for your continued love and support, wow does it help.  We feel rejuvenated and our journey inspired us in many ways.  One more bit of good news, I didn't have any bad experiences with Phil's medicines so far this year, for this I am grateful.  We are still waiting to hear about his CBD's, the dispensary closed down with the new laws, we are hoping that it will open soon.  We have found a substitute in RSO (Rick Simpson Oil)  Not exactly what we were using but close.  So no fighting, no crying and no wondering what to do about meds so far this year.
Always looking for the positive.....it helps.
Love - Light and Laughter
Meditating at Moonstone Beach - Priceless
