Feeling blue? A hike in the Redwoods brings accomplishment, relaxation and joy!

As in any story that involves cancer, there is going to be ups and downs.  In everyone's life there is sorrow, sadness, turmoil and it is with our attitudes and how we handle these challenges that determine how our lives go.  Phil and I are often reminded that with every blow or sadness comes an unparalleled happiness or kindness.  The kindnesses outweigh the bad and the happiness overpowers any sadness.  We must change homes which causes a feeling of uncertainty and we had a feeling of being taken out of our comfort zone.  Kindness again prevails and although we are uncertain of what our future brings, we are filled with hope and love.  C & M, without your love and kindness I'm not sure where we would be, but our gratitude and love for you are boundless.  I'm hopeful that we will find our new home and that it will indeed be a good thing for us.  I would ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers, each day a joy and a challenge, I believe that your prayers and thoughts are helping us.

Phil has been suffering from sadness, fatigue and what seems to be allergies.  Thank you to all who text, send him love and support.  All the words and support really do help him, something to keep in mind with family members and friends with cancer.  Very small gestures mean more than you could even imagine.  I see Phil light up with kindness and love and know that it is love that heals.  Phil continues to soar even through pain, adversity and sometimes confusion.  He tackles each one with his typical stubbornness, humor and love.  If you haven't checked out his page Phil's Joint on Facebook, give it a try, he has been enjoying the interaction and keeps him in touch with everyone.  I've been seeing many of you on there, it means the world, thank you.   When we woke up yesterday, he seemed to be feeling a little better so we decided for our Monday adventure with Noelle that we would head for some quiet time in Big Sur under the Redwood trees.  First stop was Big Sur River Inn, one of  our favorite  relaxing spots, a place to take it down a notch.

There was a small gathering of pretty cars in the parking lot which Phil was thrilled with.  We relaxed, breathed some fresh air and talked.  Our family has been experiencing alcoholism with a loved one and the learning that goes along with that has been difficult.  It is hard to watch and not be able to help.  We joined together and tried to wrap ourselves with the positive and send as much light as we can.  We are with you, I hope you can feel us.

I always love the planters on the wall there.

 ..

We decided to go over the the Big Sur State Park and take a look around.  They have been opening up new areas of the park since the fires, and we wanted to explore.  We ended up taking a hike up the Valley View hike.  I'm going to say we felt challenged, good about getting out and we hiked our butts off.  Noelle had just spent several days hiking around Pebble Beach at the ATT ProAm and Phil was feeling weak, but we just threw ourselves into it.  The day could not have been prettier....

We walked and laughed, huffed, puffed and just kept going.  Climbing up and talking to the people coming down the path.  Each cheering us on and telling us we were almost to the top.  Ha!  We made it to the top!  We were elated and what do you know we were all feeling happy, accomplished and out of breath.  I meditated, Phil stretched and Noelle explored, the glory of finishing!  The trail was fun, beautiful and around every corner, the sun was peaking through the trees.  Scott and Chris we never do anything of this nature without thinking of you, the confidence you gave to us is more than appreciated.  Thank you, we do it out loud every time we hike, just so you know.  "Thank you Scott and Chris"

Then we started the trek back down the hill, we had seen a split in the trail on our way up and decided that we were going to try that trail on the way back.  We thought that we would end back up at the lodge.  We hiked trying to notice the small things on the way back down.  Instead of ending up at the lodge we started seeing what looked like Ranger housing.  Well due to all my training watching Naked and Afraid, I was giving all my advice that we could just follow the road and it would end up at the Lodge.  Ha!  It did end up we were in a restricted area, no signs on our end where our trial began.  Yes we most certainly got reprimanded by a park ranger, who was not too pleased with us.  We headed back down the hill, yes we had to back track a small amount, but not without giggling and feeling like we were bad kids.  We loved it, we saw things we wouldn't have seen and added to the story.  Just know that you need to stay on the trail, I'm assuming the trail we followed is one the park employees use, but it wasn't marked.   Oops.  We learned and won't repeat, but we had a ball and our morale was boosted.

There is absolutely nothing better for one's energy than a walk in the forest.  It heals, it calms and it relaxes.  Love, Light and Laughter!
