The day started at seven in the morning, I decided to head to Pismo Beach because a couple of years ago Phil, Noelle and I went about this time of year and there were Pelicans everywhere. I'm sure if you have been following the blog you have seen my obsession with these incredible birds. Let me start by saying that you can't recreate history. This is a trip that I have taken many, many times with Phil, a favorite of ours.
I told myself, take it easy and stop where I wanted to for image taking.
I started with a photo of Rocky Creek Bridge.
Then Bixby Bridge, it is always packed with tourists, so I rarely stop. It was so early there were only a couple of people around.
The Point Sur Light Station in the distance which Phil and I got to visit on day with our friend Connie.
The next stop is a family favorite, one we always stop at. Phil and I have been there so many times, I can't count. As he was going through treatments, we visited often.
Big Sur River Inn is a treat and is worth visiting. There is a restaurant, a mini store and an inn. The river runs behind it. It is perfection and who knows how many times it has been in the blog?!
A few stops along the way.
I passed the Elephant Seal beach this time because I could see there weren't many seals on the beach. Instead I walked on William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach.
Moonstone Beach in Cambria, holds some wonderful memories. Phil and I started visiting there in 1997 and there is a park we stopped at each time we traveled the coast. I shed a tear and just took time to remember some wonderful times and I had a smile, a giggle and a bit of a laugh as I walked.
Morro Strand Beach was beautiful, it was my first time to walk it. It was warm, there were sand dollars all over the beach and I was starting to get tired.
I proceeded to enter Hwy 101 going North instead of South, flipped around as soon as I could and headed to Avila Beach. Then something that has never happened since Phil left. I tried to grab his knee as I did when he was going through treatments and I was excited to share what we were seeing. Instead I grabbed my box of CD's, which says everything doesn't it? Phil would have got a chuckle from that. I gave it a good Boo Hoo, parked the car and watched a guy fly over the water.
I love this drive, the coast and all of these places hold memories for me. I realize that I have lived in California for a long time. Between Santa Barbara and the Monterey Peninsula a little over 20 years.
Next Pismo Beach, trying to recreate what happened the last time I was there. Last time it was pelicans, baby sea gulls and fun. This time it was hummingbirds, fun and frustration trying to get my hot spot for my computer to work. I had hope to work on the blog while I was on the road. Wanting to get home before the sunset, I gave up on the hot spot, to be tackled later. Pismo was beautiful as always.
On the way back home I stopped at Ragged Point Inn and wandered around. The grounds are incredible, what views!
Portal to Big Sur.
Lily Pads! 😀
The sun started to set and I pulled over a couple of times to catch it.
After I passed Big Sur, the clouds looked amazing, lit up with color. I started to look for a place to take an image. I started to stop at one stop off but it was small and I felt unsure. The next one was larger, I was trying to be careful, but I think my decision was made too quickly. I was going slow and the person behind me decided to pass me at the same time as I turned. He honked which made me straighten out, which saved us both. When he got to my car, you never saw a more amicable, kind conversation between two people who just collided. He was kind, caring and we just took care of business. I told him thank you for being kind, during these trying times, we all need to be kind to each other. It was an accident, they happen, but what happened between us was heart warming and proof of the humanity we are capable of.
I didn't get my final picture, I was tired and in shock after I got home.
For Phil
You are a bright light in my heart.
I love and miss you,
